Opposition To Kavanaugh Spikes

The NBC News/ Wall Street Journal poll just out (click on image to enlarge):

It's significant where the spike in opposition is coming from:
The increased opposition to Kavanaugh has come, in particular, from women over 50 (who were +3 on Kavanaugh’s confirmation in August and are -7 now) suburban women (-6 in August and -11 now), independents (who were +15 in August and -16 now) and seniors (+9 in August to -10 now).
This nominee and this process is a gathering sh*tstorm for Republicans, and they deserve that and more.

I've been running some thoughts about the Republican insistance that the confirmation forge ahead in spite of serious allegations against Kavanaugh. Some conjecture: The Republicans will not acknowlege Ford's allegations, period. If they do, they then give value to what she has to say. Then they are forced to admit Kavanaugh may be a poor choice and they have to consider withdrawing his bid for the Supreme Court. The Republicans believe that Ford is a liar, sent by Democrats to stall the proceedings.

Trump wants him to cover his ass legally in the possible, likely event that he is charged with obstruction or worse.
McConnell wants him (now) because he represents a key Republican goal, another Supreme, and he doesn't want to back down or be seen as giving in to the Democrats.
Republicans see Kavanaugh as their winner for their Right to Life voters and he's their promised Roe v Wade buster, so they don t want him to go, either.

The Republicans, Grassley for example, want to shove this nominee all the way into the Court without due process and consideration. They have offered no explanations for why this has to be done immediately, none, but we all know they're scared about the midterms. But we can't stop them, and that's what frustrates me.

No one knows how this plays out. Kavanaugh as a Supreme will be beholden to Trump and the Republicans, and his lifelong appointment will spell disaster for countless American citizens. Whatever happens, Kavanaugh will be a blot on the Republican record.
