"Green Wave" Lifts Dems
Going into the mid-terms, the one thing the Dems have over the Rethuglicans is money, tens of millions of dollars. For example, the fundraising of underdog Beto O'Rourke over weasel and Trump ass kisser Ted "Tailgunner Ted" Cruz is staggering: just in the last quarter, O'Rourke raised $38 million, three times what the Tailgunner raised. Overall, Dems have reserved nearly twice the TV ad space as Rethugs, with $109 million vs. $60 million. Add to that the $80 million pledged by former New York City mayor and recent Dem convert Michael Bloomberg, a strong advocate of gun safety laws and a Trump nemesis. Whether the cash will be enough to offset a last minute influx of money from the likes of gambling mogul and right-wing Likudnik zealot Sheldon "Smelly Shelly" Adelson, who's pledged at least $20 million so far, remains to be seen. But ad buys are usually locked in months before they run, so the available time slots aren't nearly as much in prime time or on national networks. Alternatively, funds are also used to support grass-roots organizing and getting out the vote, so it's not all about TV ads.
There have been the usual suspects in the media who have touted the Kavanaugh effect as helping stoke Rethuglican enthusiasm for the mid-terms, an effect that's been shown to be mythical. If fundraising is any barometer, Dems are more highly motivated -- and angry -- now more than ever. But money doesn't cast ballots, so keep that motivation going through November 6, and VOTE.

I am so proud of the citizens who have donated not just to Beto, but to Democratic candidates across the country. Without using PAC funds, these candidates stand for what we want them to be.
ReplyDeleteI hope the funding helps everyone to defeat the Republicans. I do hope there is not a sense of resignation if some of the Dems don't manage a win. All the odds are still in favor of Cruz in a big red state. We have to change a lot of minds, and money makes that easier, but there needs to be canvassing and phone calls and support on the ground. And if Beto doesn't prevail, we need to keep moving forward. No getting discouraged, no quitting.
The date for our redemption is coming. We need to give all we can to make it a triumphant day.
donnah -- The ground game will be essential in the mid-terms, and money facilitates that. In Beto's case, he's fighting an uphill battle, but one that may set the stage in the future for turning Texas purple. Good grass roots organizations win elections, and funding them is going to make that happen eventually.
