Quote Of The Day -- "An American Tragedy"
"His performance is indelibly etched in the public mind. For as long as [Republican hack Brett] Kavanaugh sits on the court, he will remain a symbol of partisan anger, a haunting reminder that behind the smiling face of judicial benevolence lies the force of an urgent will to power. No one who felt the force of that anger could possibly believe that Kavanaugh might actually be a detached and impartial judge. Each and every Republican who votes for Kavanaugh, therefore, effectively announces that they care more about controlling the Supreme Court than they do about the legitimacy of the court itself. There will be hell to pay." -- Robert Post, former dean and Sterling professor at Yale Law School. He goes on to call Kavanaugh's placement on the Court "an American tragedy."
It's up to us to make sure, certainly in the near term, that it's Republicans who will have hell to pay for this.

Let me know when hell gets paid. Hell didn't get paid when Trump was campaigning and insulted disabled people, the Mexicans, women or the poor. Hell didn't get paid when he got elected and lied about how many people attended the Inauguration. Hell didn't get paid when he kissed Putin's ass or Kim Jung Un's. Hell still hasn't been paid when McConnell and Ryan and the Republicans rammed tax cuts and tried to dismember the ACA.
ReplyDeleteI know, this is my bitter face. The point is, outrage hasn't helped us. The wrongdoing continues, unabated. Thirteen thousand immigrant children are being held in a fucking broiling tent city in Texas. No hell has been paid, no resistance has gained sufficient ground, and it's all been capped off with a new, corrupt, drunk abuser who will devote his new career to overturning laws that used to protect us.
Now, more than ever, the votes in November have to get us started on a difficult climb out of the abyss of Republican ruin. I don't know what we face in terms of Republican turnout or Russian interference, since the Republicans have stifled our attempts to investigate the Russian and Chinese interference. But we have to get voters motivated and to the polls. We are running out of options as the Republicans shut us down again and again. Getting it done is only going to get harder.
