Another angry man with a .45 caliber handgun and a lethal mission shot and killed 11 patrons at a bar in Thousand Oaks, CA late last night. A Ventura County deputy sheriff also died in this latest rampage of gun violence, bringing the total to 12 dead, not including the shooter, who was identified as 28 year old Marine veteran Ian Long. The massacre comes just 12 days after 11 worshipers were killed at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh by an anti-immigrant anti-Semite.
As details emerge, more will be know about the killer's motivation, but it fits the clear pattern of a male acting out a personal grudge or ideological beef by killing as many people as he can in a crowded public venue. How and why this killer had access to a firearm will be the subject of further investigation, but someone doesn't engage in a mass killing without serious mental problems.
