Dreamer's Plan To Attend Oxford Threatened

The immigration policies of demagogue and sociopath Donald "Rump" Trump have hurt countless families through separation, deportation and harassment. This particular story is one of sheer malice and recklessness that will also harm the U.S. by potentially depriving it of a brilliant mind. Jin Park is a Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) "dreamer" who graduated from Harvard University and has been awarded a Rhodes scholarship to attend Oxford. He studied molecular and cell biology, but wants to study political theory and migration at Oxford. Park, however, is concerned that if he travels to England on the scholarship, he won't be allowed back into the U.S., given Rump's cancellation of the option for travel abroad for dreamers.

Park's family came to the U.S. from South Korea when Park was 7 years old. He is one of an estimated 700,000 dreamers whose status has been threatened by Rump's racist immigration stance to kill DACA. Federal courts in California, New York and D.C. have blocked Rump's destructive attempts, while the Supreme Court decides whether to review the lower court rulings. In the meantime, Park plans to turn his personal experiences into advocacy for immigration reform.

In any sane and decent administration, Jin Park's potential would be welcomed, not threatened. As with thousands of other dreamers, he's a far better representation of what America should stand for than the despicable and cowardly regime that's trying to thwart him.
