As of today, the Dems will control one-half of Congress, with the swearing in of the blue tsunami, giving Rep. Nancy Pelosi the Speaker's gavel once again. Pelosi's expected to be the rock of resistance to pathological liar and demagogue Donald "Rump" Trump (a.k.a. Cadet Bone Spurs) with her mastery of the legislative process and superb strategic and tactical ability. The first order of business for the Dems will be to call the Rethugs' bluff on the Rump government shutdown by funding the remainder of Government through September 30, with the exception of the Department of Homeland Security which would be funded temporarily but without Rump's idiotic $5 billion for the wall that Mexico was supposed to pay for. Another top priority will be for the Dems to pass an "in-your-face" bill aimed at Rethuglican voter suppression, from expanding access to the ballot box and automatic voter registration, to restoring the integrity of the Voting Rights Act.
We can't wait for Speaker Pelosi to get going. It's clear from Rump's rattled behavior (see post below) that he's afraid that she will. It's just another reason that 2019 will be a nightmare for Rump.

Nancy Smash will be a strong leader and I'm thrilled to see her back in the driver's seat. I hope Trump, McConnell, and the other rotted corpses of the Republican party suffered terrible heartburn last night in anticipation of Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats regaining power. It's not a perfect situation, since Republicans still exist and Trump is still the president, but Democrats still can move forward more confidently.
Let's go! New year, new blood! If Mueller comes through, we might have higher hopes for 2019!
donnah -- She's the right person at the right time in the right place to save our democracy. We're not naive to think that everything will be done in a day, a week or a month, but she'll make sure Rump is contained and weakened in his remaining term.
And to celebrate: Pelosi is confirmed! Our new House Speaker will receive her gavel and hopefully start using it.
