The Shutdown Toll On Private Contractors

As some 800,000 Federal employees struggle without a paycheck, including those forced to work as "essential employees," there are countless private contractors scattered in every state across the country that are not only out of work, but won't be seeing any pay restored once the Trump / McConnell shutdown is over. The Washington Post reported that $200 million a week affecting nearly 10,000 private companies is being lost to employees due to the shutdown. If Trump and the Rethuglicans in the Senate don't care about the Federal employees, they're sure to feel the anger growing from those contractors in the private sector who are losing pay that they'll never see again.

There's a ripple effect, too, with areas who have a large number of workers on furlough. Restaurants, supply businesses, childcare facilities all see big losses when regular consumers disappear. The stupidity of this president and his failure to support workers to boost his own vanity and smug sense of pride is disgusting.
