QOTD -- Trump's Obsession

"The story of Mr. Trump’s attempts to defang the investigations has been voluminously covered in the news media, to such a degree that many Americans have lost track of how unusual his behavior is. But fusing the strands reveals an extraordinary story of a president who has attacked the law enforcement apparatus of his own government like no other president in history, and who has turned the effort into an obsession. Mr. Trump has done it with the same tactics he once used in his business empire: demanding fierce loyalty from employees, applying pressure tactics to keep people in line and protecting the brand — himself — at all costs. "--  Mark Mazzetti, Maggie Haberman, Nicholas Fandos and Michael S. Schmidt in The New York Times story concerning Donald "Rump" Trump's (Individual 1) attempts to corruptly influence the Southern District of New York's investigations into the Michael Cohen case (see post below).

I've been watching the various interviews with Andrew McCabe and while he has detractors, I believe him. He has a sincere, dedicated manner that reinforces that believability for me. He's telling us that the concerns about Trump, and not just his own, became outright fear after Comey was fired. And he seems like a solid and unflappable guy, so when he's worried, I think we should all be worried.

Trump is worried, too, but he's not going to go quietly. He craves loyalty from those who work for him, but he demands it without earning it and he expects loyalty without deserving it. That type of demand came as a shock to the men and women who worked at the FBI, who are incredibly loyal to their team and normally to their leader. But Trump is smashing their teamwork ethics and trying to force them to commit to him.

Trump is obsessed with many things, but power and money are what he wants most. He wants absolute control and he will destroy all the norms in his power grab to get it.

Also bolstering McCabe's credibility is his extensive experience investigating organized crime, which, of course, is a core part of Trump's business model.
