QOTD: Religious Cult And Crime Family

You have to think of the Trump phenomenon as a religious cult surrounding an organized crime family. But at the outer perimeters people are starting to melt away. And Michael Cohen’s departure is a signal moment in the evolution of the Trump phenomenon. He is the innermost sycophant to break ranks.” (our emphasis) -- the terrific Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD), as quoted in Michelle Goldberg's latest excellent op-ed in today's New York Times.

That's why the letters from the House Judiciary Committee requesting documents from 81 Trump associates is so monumental, and should cause more melting of the layers surrounding the most corrupt, unbalanced and unfit person ever to serve in the Oval Office.

Raskin is my Congressman and during the election campaign actually went around door-to-door, which is how I met him. Terrifically smart and engaging person too. While Cohen did turn on Trump, in part, it's because Trump shows him or anybody he personally knows with any kind of loyalty (ironically, since he's always demanding personal loyalty from others.

But whether the Trumpers abandon him is far less clear. They don't feel they are personally affected by Trump's depredations and unless and until that happens, they will stick with him.

Jimbo -- Agree completely on Rep. Raskin; he's got great skill and grasp of issues. As for Trump's cult, the thing they seem to prize above anything is his angry, crude, ignorant attacks on everyone and everything that they despise, too. He's their megaphone, and nothing -- not even treason -- will split them from their Dear Leader who speaks their language of hate.
