Sunday Reflection

"When we contemplate the whole globe as one great dewdrop, striped and dotted with continents and islands, flying through space with other stars all singing and shining together as one, the whole universe appears as an infinite storm of beauty." - Travels in Alaska by John Muir, 1915, chapter 1, page 5.

Muir was a trailblazer, quite literally, a man with a vision and dedication to his belief that nature is to be honored, respected, and celebrated. On a visit to the Sequoia National Park, a good friend and I stayed at a smaller park center named for him and walked through a prairie site where he had stayed. I'm glad there are many tributes to him and his amazing work as a naturalist.

At our peril, we ignore what Muir accomplished. Clearly the Republicans would gladly destroy everything he held sacred so they can profit from mining rights and drilling rights. In every way, they are indecent, heartless, and greedy. We have to hold onto the prinicples that Muir held so that this country can keep intact the beauty he saw and cherished.

donnah -- Trump and his pillagers are busy trying to undo 50 years of environmental action. 2020 can't come too soon.

Thanks for the personal remembrance!
