Lone Rethug Again Stops Disaster Aid Bill

Last week it was right-wing dead-ender Rethuglican Rep. Chip "Cow Chip" Roy (Loon-TX) who stopped a unanimous consent vote in the House, blocking a $19.1 billion aid package to states affected by hurricanes, wildfires and earthquakes, including funding for Puerto Rico's recovery from Hurricane Maria in 2017. This week it was another right-wing dead-ender Rethuglican Rep. Thomas "Assie" Massie (Loon-KY) who blocked the measure. With the House in recess until June 4, passage of any bill during this period has to be by unanimous consent, rather than a recorded vote.

Massie, a member of the far-right "libertarian" Liberty Caucus, has a reputation for voting no on many bills, apparently believing that no Government is good Government.  He also likes to think he's a man of acid wit, especially in his knowledge of "pseudo- science." Here, his vote screwed millions of Americans out of the relief they need to recover from natural disasters. In a just world, he should find himself on the other side, needing disaster assistance for his district or home and having some numbnut jerk blocking it.

Again, I say send these assholes with a shovel and a bucket to disaster areas. As a matter of fact, they can now come to my hometown of Dayton, Ohio, where we just had a double hit of tornadoes last night. The damage is devastating and so many homes and businesses suffered huge losses. It will take a lot of effort and money to get this area repaired and buildings replaced.

These guys have no hearts or souls.

donnah -- The scenes from Ohio and Indiana are shocking in the destruction shown. This has been one of the most active tornado seasons on record, and to have that weird ass Massie holding aid up is infuriating.

We were spared personally this time, for which I am grateful. But the damage just a mile away is staggering. Our local shopping mall, a high school, grade school, sports arena, and countless homes and businesses were destroyed. We saw the worst tornado damage back when I was in high school when much of the city of Xenia was wiped off the map, but this is much closer and the damage more widespread. This is why federal aid will be necessary and why jerks in the House cannot treat these disasters like a political football.

donnah -- We're so happy that you escaped harm. The twisters still hit so close to you, and to have so many homes and stores destroyed is staggering. Until you've witnessed or been affected by the destruction, you can't imagine what people are going through.

Thanks, guys! :-)

Kentucky? Drat. I guess there's no hope of this poo-pellet being voted out unless some major disaster hits his won district and he pulls the same things. Which he just might. Libertarians are that doctrinaire.

If he doesn't believe in most of what government does, he shouldn't have become a politician. It's like a fervent Catholic becoming an abortion doctor just so he can refuse to provide abortions.

Infidel -- Libertarians are innately selfish, too, which could allow him to seek maximum relief for his district if faced with disaster, consistency be damned. His Kentucky district runs right along the Ohio River, so there's always the chance he'll be put to that test.
