We can grab the strings ourselves and adjust our course at every crossroad, or take off at any little trail into the unknown.” -- the late Norwegian explorer, adventurer and ethnographer Thor Heyerdahl, born on this day in 1914. Heyerdahl was the author of the groundbreaking book "The Kon-Tiki Expedition: By Raft Across the South Seas" (the basis for 1950's award-winning documentary film "Kon-Tiki") about his journey by raft across the South Pacific in 1947.
