Rep. Schiff: "The Truth Matters. Otherwise We Are Lost"

In case you missed it, here's the conclusion of Rep. Adam Schiff's (D-CA) powerful closing argument for the removal of dangerous moron Donald "Rump" Trump last night:

"The American people deserve a president they can count on to put their interests first, to put their interest first. Colonel Vindman said, here, right matters. Here, right matters.

"Well, let me tell you something. If right doesn't matter, if right doesn't matter, it doesn't matter how good the constitution is. It doesn't matter how brilliant the framers were. It doesn't matter how good or bad our advocacy in this trial is. It doesn't matter how well-written the oath of impartiality is. If right doesn't matter, we're lost. If truth doesn't matter, we're lost. The framers couldn't protect us from ourselves, if right and truth don't matter. And you know that what he did was not right.

"You know, that's what they do in the old country, that Colonel Vindman's father came from or the old country that my great-grandfather came from, or the old countries that your ancestors came from or that maybe you came from.

"But here, right is supposed to matter. It's what's made us the greatest nation on earth. No constitution can protect us if right doesn't matter anymore. And you know you can't trust this president to do what's right for this country. You can trust he will do what's right for Donald Trump. He'll do it now. He's done it before. He'll do it for the next several months. He'll do it in the election if he's allowed to.

"This is why, if you find him guilty, you must find that he should be removed. Because right matters. Because right matters. And the truth matters. Otherwise we are lost."

I've been watching the Democratic team's testimony, and it has been stellar. They are concise, convincing, and deliberate in their presentation. All of them have done well, but Adam Schiff has commanded the most respect and attention. He's sincere, he's direct, and he's forceful without being a grandstander,

Last night in his closing arguments, he was clearly emotional. I was moved to tears as he made his statements about how hugely important this trial is. It's key to our Democracy and to everything that Americans have fought for.

Republicans will take the stage Saturday. They know that they cannot defend Trump because the facts, even without testimony, speak clearly to his guilt. They'll dismiss everything the Democratic team has presented and will try to reframe it as a conspiracy to ruin Trump's re-election. That and some transparent policy issues they will try to push. No facts, no proof of his innocence. Because they can't prove that he's innocent.

Sadly, the vote for evidence will fail. Team Trump just threatened Republican Senators with putting “their heads on a pike” if they vote against him. He already distanced one of his biggest ass-kissers Gaetz from his front publicity team because Gaetz voted against him in the recent war powers act. Now Gaetz is feeling snubbed and other Republicans can see what happens when you disobey the Master.

So the House Team has outdone themselves and made a monumental contribution to our nation's integrity and history. But it won't matter in the decision. I'm always trying to be hopeful, but I'm also a realist. Trump will be acquitted by a cowardly cast of traitors. He will turn his personal victory into a rallying cry for his re-election and the gloating will be unrelenting.

But the Democrats will have made their own stamp in history. They will be seen as the heroes as time goes on, and Trump will become an ugly stain on the office of the presidency. We just have to make sure he doesn't get a second disastrous term.
