Imagining what retaliatory move (or moves) Iran will make to avenge the assassination of Gen. Soleimani will keep U.S. intelligence and its partners up at night working and reworking scenarios. Although the preliminary indication is the the Iranians will hit U.S. military targets, there's no way of knowing at this point in a volatile environment. Which leads to an interesting thesis that a non-military target may be one of narcissistic demagogue and buffoon Donald "Cadet Bone Spurs" Trump's beloved properties to strike at the hollow core of his being. Michael Daly imagines this scene:
"Around noon on Monday, a truck of the same type that Timothy McVeigh used to bomb the federal building in Oklahoma City with such devastating effect in 1995 stopped for a red light on West 57th Street, a half-block up Fifth Avenue from the tower. An Iranian sleeper agent with a load of explosives would have needed only to make a right to do his worst before anybody could have moved to stop him.Trump Tower in New York City would be a literally go-for-broke target for Iran that would not only kill civilians but provoke an all-out response from an unhinged, raging Trump, and thus one that the Iranians would want to avoid. However, if Trump follows through on his threat to hit sites in Iran that are culturally or religiously significant (despite a Pentagon pledge not to do so), a Trump property, or properties, somewhere may suffer the consequences.
This truck was just delivering produce and it continued on across town when the light turned green. The four-faced black and gold clock outside the tower ticked on from 12:02 to 12:03 to 12:04 as the city and the rest of America waited to see exactly how the Iranian regime will seek revenge."
