Red warning lights continue to flash over the full-blown global climate crisis, this time in an alarming World Meteorological Organization (WMO) report that a new high temperature record for Antarctica has been set: 64.9 degrees Fahrenheit / 18.3 degrees Celsius. The temperature was recorded Thursday at the Esperanza Base on the Antarctic peninsula, which is one of the fastest warming regions of the world. The higher temperature trend threatens further melting of the ice cap and rising sea levels that threaten coastal areas worldwide:
"Scientists believe global warming has caused so much melting at the south pole that the giant ice sheet is now on course to disintegrate. This would see an eventual global sea level rise of at least three meters (10 feet) over centuries. [snip] “The amount of ice lost annually from the Antarctic ice sheet increased at least six-fold between 1979 and 2017,” (WMO spokesman Claire) Nullis added, citing images showing cracks in glaciers in Antarctica.Mentally unfit sociopath Donald "Rump" Trump has dismissed global warming as a "hoax" as he and his corrupt party cravenly pander to the fossil fuel industry which funds so much of their political campaigns. This data won't budge them, but it should set off alarms with anyone else looking at a bleak future for the Earth.
