“This is the new landscape for survivors of sexual assault in America, I believe, and it is a new day. It is a new day because Harvey Weinstein has finally been held accountable for crimes he committed.Weinstein is a vicious, serial sexual predator who used his power to threaten, rape, assault and trick, humiliate and silence his victims.” -- Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance after a jury found disgraced film mogul and serial sexual predator Harvey Weinstein guilty on charges of rape and sexual assault involving two women. His sentencing is March 11, and he could face 29 years in prison.
The jury apparently was deadlocked on the most serious charges of predatory sexual assault which carry sentences of life in prison. Weinstein now faces charges of rape and sexual assault in Los Angeles in the spring of 2013. As AP notes:
"The conviction was seen as a long-overdue reckoning for Weinstein after years of whispers about his behavior turned into a torrent of accusations in 2017 that destroyed his career and gave rise to #MeToo, the global movement to encourage women to come forward and hold powerful men accountable for their sexual misconduct."The #MeToo movement sprang from the multiple accusations against low life Weinstein. It's a tragedy that he wasn't caught after the first instance, but that's the power relationship and it needs to be exposed and ended.
