Chris Matthews Exits MSNBC

Cable pundit Chris "Tweety" Matthews was his own headline last night on his MSNBC program, announcing his immediate retirement from the cable channel. His network had been under pressure to fire Matthews after new allegations of sexual harassment and for comparing Sen. Bernie Sanders' campaign to the Nazi invasion of France in 1940. Matthews' behavior toward women has been questioned several times in the past, adding more pressure on him to quit.

The frequently rude Matthews would constantly interrupt his guests' answers to his questions, and liked to recall his relationship to the late House Speaker Tip O'Neill, and to boast of his political savvy and insider status.  He did manage to exit more gracefully, apologizing for his behavior, and saying that the times have changed for the better. They have, and it's good that Matthews acknowledged it on his way out.

  1. Years ago he should have been gone along with most of the others. It's because of pricks like them we have trump.

  2. One Fly -- He's the consummate horse race guy who thought like a guy living in the '50s. Whenever he appeared alongside progressives like Maddow, Hayes, etc., he'd have a dismissive "attytood" toward them like he knew more.

  3. Matthews is a dinosaur. His abrasive style and his constant interrupting in interviews was off-putting and insulting. There are plenty of qualified and capable journalists or pundits who can replace him. Personally, I like Nicolle Wallace and Joy Reid.
