Mid-Week Song: Elizabethan Serenade

When a young Queen Elizabeth II was crowned in February 1952, popular British composer and arranger Ronald Binge retitled a orchestral work of his to honor what was seen in the UK as a new "Elizabethan" era. The result was our choice of songs today, the lovely light orchestral "Elizabethan Serenade." The serenade was picked up by the BBC as the theme song for one of its 1950s programs, "Music Tapestry," and was the sign off song for British Forces radio network back then. Later, it achieved some international popularity when German choirmaster Günter Kallmann put lyrics to the serenade and released it as "Elisabeth Serenade" in 1963. This serenade in particular seems like the perfect companion to staying at home and staying calm. Enjoy.
