Sunday Reflection: RBG and Fighting

"Fight for the things that you care about, but do it in a way that will lead others to join you." -- revered Associate Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg, who turns 87 today.

Perhaps no Supreme Court Justice has generated the esteem, affection and following that Justice Ginsberg, a.k.a. The Notorious R.B.G., has over her career, and what a career. Starting as a professor of law at Rutgers and Columbia, volunteering her services to the American Civil Liberties Union to advocate for gender equality and women's rights, appointed to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit in 1980, and appointed to the Supreme Court in 1993 as the second woman to serve there (Justice Sandra Day O'Connor being the first).

A colon and pancreatic cancer survivor, Justice Ginsberg is known for her work ethic and commitment to the Court, returning to work while still receiving treatment for cancer. She practices a workout regimen that would exhaust people much younger. We hope with all our hearts she lives on to fight for the things she cares about, as we care about her.

We need her more now than ever. I appreciate her for soldiering on during personal illness and against a Supreme Court loaded against her. She is so vital to our democracy that I worry about her all of the time.

HBD, RBG!

donnah -- We, too, worry about her, and hope that she'll be around to fight the good fight for years more.
