Sanders Drops Out Of Dem Race [UPDATE]

Not unexpectedly, Sen. Bernie Sanders has dropped out of the Dem nomination race for President, citing the impossibility of gaining ground on former Vice President Joe Biden's lead in delegates. Sanders vowed to remain a voice for the issues he's championed for years, namely universal health care via a "Medicare For All" approach, and assistance with college tuition and debt. That leaves Biden as the sole candidate, something that will allow Dems to focus on November's election and to hopefully unite to defeat existential threat to democracy Donald "Moron Vector" Trump. In his announcement, Sanders emphasized that he would continue to press for the adoption of as many of his positions as possible, and it's likely that he will be rewarded for his decision today with a nod to that.

So good on Sen. Sanders for rejecting some of his hardline advisors, who wanted to fight all the way to the last ballot at the Dem National Convention, something that would have damaged the party, and given Trump a wedge. Now, if his most strident supporters will follow his lead and join the effort to send Trump packing, this will have been a very good day.

Stay tuned, updates as needed.
