Sunday Reflection: Problems And Learning
"I think there's a great beauty to having problems. That's one of the ways we learn." - Jazz master and one of the great pianists / keyboardists Herbie Hancock, celebrating 80 years of age today. Hancock gained national attention when he joined the Miles Davis Quintet in 1963, followed a decade later by leading his own jazz ensemble The Headhunters. The winner of 14 Grammys and one Academy Award, his long career continues, with his most recent project set to feature musicians like Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dogg and Wayne Shorter.
Hancock once described the jazz genre this way: "It's not exclusive, but inclusive, which is the whole spirit of jazz." We're better to have been included in his music, in his spirit.
