The Spread-The-Virus Party (UPDATED)

Reminiscent of the "Tea Party" cult, mobs of right-wing thugs, waving Trump banners and Confederate flags, descended yesterday on several state capitols in a coordinated protest against their state's stay-at-home orders to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. Some in the mobs open-carried guns.

Looking like a Trump rally, in Michigan they assembled on the steps of the state capitol without masks and not observing safe social distancing. Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer commented:
“We know that this demonstration is going to come at a cost to people’s health," Whitmer said. "When people gather that way without masks ... that’s how COVID-19 spreads.

"The sad irony here is that ... they don’t like being in this stay-at-home order and they may have just created the need to lengthen it, which is something we’re trying to avoid at all costs.”
By potentially spreading the virus, these dull-witted neo-fascists also have put not only us, but the heroes in our health care system at further risk and strain. In Ohio, they carried signs like "Quarantine worse than virus" to the capitol, again not properly guarding against spreading the virus:
It's both sad and infuriating to think that these sociopathic morons have so little awareness of the potential harm they're causing. They're listening to their cult leader, malignant narcissist Donald "Spread The Virus" Trump for guidance, someone who has consistently placed his reelection hopes and prematurely "opening" the economy over their lives and the lives of our front-line heroes.

UPDATE:  Yes, it does look like a still from a horror movie... like this one --

I've read here and there that the DeVos people sponsored the rallies in Michigan. I guess Satan was busy or too broke to do it.

That photo of the protesters, I mean morons in Columbus has gotten hilarious reposts and comments galore. They do look like ridiculous zombies and sadly, many of them will be actually contagious, whether or not they bite anyone. They all deserve to get sick, and they reflect quite badly on our state, which has been exemplary in our social distancing and early response by Gov Mike DeWine.

Rushing into a return to the pre-virus behavior is a second tier disaster in the making. Trump is just trying to drag the economy back up because his re-election hangs in the balance. The economy was the only thing he had going and now that it is teetering into an abyss, he'll force states to open prematurely. If they succeed, he'll claim credit. If they fail, he'll blame the governors.

He's beyond despicable.

donnah -- The "spontaneous" protests are a sign that, like the old Tea Party, there are plenty of right-wing groups backed by reactionary plutocrats ready to mobilize, in this case, against public health.

If any of those turkeys do get the virus as a result of this mob scene, one wonders if they'll wise up at all. Certainly they'll find that those guns are of no use against this enemy.

That picture from Shawn Mitchell is a classic.

Infidel, hi! Aren't you a favorite at Mock, Paper, Scissors?

True Believers will never change. They will get sick and die without ever criticizing their Dear Leader. I'm sure they still believe the virus is a hoax, or a plot to bring Trump down, and they will happily sacrifice themselves and their families if need be. They are fanatics and zealots.

Sadly, though, they endanger the rest of us.
