Weekend Music

As most of you likely know, beloved and iconic folk singer/ songwriter John Prine passed away Wednesday from complications caused by COVID-19 at the too- early age of 73.  Sometimes referred to as "the Mark Twain of songwriting," Prine's half- century of songs captured American life with humor, irony, poignancy, and an unflinching eye.  We're picking two of his songs to share today, knowing full well just two songs could never represent such a rich and deep career.

The first is from his first album, "John Prine," released in 1971, and deals with the lonely anonymity that sometimes comes with aging; it's the lovely and poignant "Hello In There."

The second song is Prine at his humorous, word-play best.  "Please Don't Bury Me" is from Prine's third album, "Sweet Revenge" released in 1973.

Rest in peace (or in pieces, if you prefer, John!).
