Memorial Day 2020

As has become a tradition with us, we're recognizing Memorial Day with "Beneath the Southern Cross," part of the original Richard Rodgers' soundtrack for the NBC "Victory at Sea" World War II documentary series from the early 1950s.  The title refers to the constellation Crux (or Southern Cross) easily visible in the South Pacific.  The RCA Victor Orchestra led by Robert Russell Bennett performs the song, also familiarly known as "No Other Love Have I."

Memorial Day in America is a day we remember those service men and women in all wars who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. We gratefully honor your service.

Excellent choice. Memorial Day means many things to many people. We're going to social distance at the VA cemetery and visit Dad and his brother. Have a safe and happy Holiday. Seafury

We all owe a debt of gratitude and today is but one day to remember those who fought and died for us. I think that most of us, even those who haven't served in a branch of the military, either is related to or was friends with those who have. My Dad was a Marine in Korea, my uncle was in the Army in Viet Nam, my husband's dad was in the Army in WWII and his stepdad was in the Navy in WWII. We have a friend who fought in Desert Storm in the Army.

I live near an Air Force base and we understand and appreciate their significant contribution to our area. We can all honor those who have served and those who still do.

Seafury -- thanks, and regards to you and yours.

donnah -- absolutely. Dad was in Army Intelligence and his brother was a tailgunner in a B-17 during WWII. Another uncle was in the Battle of the Bulge. A cousin died in a Marine artillery unit at Quảng Tri in 1969. Other family has served since the Civil War. Regardless of when and who, we honor them and all who serve in war and peace.
