As we noted yesterday, pathological liar and sociopath Donald "COVID Donnie" Trump and his enablers are attempting to shift the focus from his disastrous, slow response to the COVID-19 pandemic to conspiracies involving China. To be sure, China was not cooperative or transparent during the early stages of the pandemic, but Trump wants us to imagine a conspiracy that a Chinese lab manufactured the virus and released it, intentionally or not.
The Wuhan lab in question has spent years researching bat-borne viruses in China and elsewhere. There is always the risk that viruses being researched in the lab could result in the spread of disease, but there is no evidence of that in this case. In a statement from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, the innuendo that Trumpists were pushing about the virus being manmade and biological warfare against the U.S. was debunked:
"The Intelligence Community also concurs with the wide scientific consensus that the COVID-19 virus was not manmade or genetically modified."In a press conference yesterday, Trump was confronted with his own DNI's statement and appeared baffled by it, wanting to know by name "who said it," a sign that he'll be silencing that voice of contradiction soon.
