Michael Flynn’s words when he pled guilty: "I recognize that the actions I acknowledged in court today were wrong, and, through my faith in God, I am working to set things right.” https://t.co/vKpTrQicn7 pic.twitter.com/0eRzfN1jRV— Jim Roberts (@nycjim) May 7, 2020
Please understand why this is so dangerous.— Joshua A. Geltzer (@jgeltzer) May 7, 2020
It’s not about whatever sentence Flynn would’ve received.
It’s about Trump & Barr turning an extreme view of American law enforcement as an untrustworthy enemy of the people into official US Government policy.
THAT’S what’s scary.
Remember that Trump could’ve achieved the same result (basically) by pardoning Flynn.— Joshua A. Geltzer (@jgeltzer) May 7, 2020
But he didn’t have the guts.
So Barr found a way to do it for Trump—but shield him from the responsibility & accountability.
That makes it a bad day for BOTH the Justice Dept & democracy.
Totally unjustified and purely partisan. Just goes to show that a president with a sufficiently corrupt and compliant Attorney General needn’t even bother to abuse his pardon power to bail out his loyal henchmen. https://t.co/W7EMrFj4J4— Laurence Tribe (@tribelaw) May 7, 2020
I’m old enough to remember when the Trump White House suddenly began referring to Flynn as a “former Obama administration official."— Mark Strauss (@MarkDStrauss) May 7, 2020
you know you are the right Barr for the Trump administration when you keep getting lower all the time— Alexandra Petri (@petridishes) May 7, 2020
BONUS: There's always the incriminating tweet from Dear Leader:
I had to fire General Flynn because he lied to the Vice President and the FBI. He has pled guilty to those lies. It is a shame because his actions during the transition were lawful. There was nothing to hide!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) December 2, 2017
The presiding judge, Emmet Sullivan, still has a say in whether to go along with the "Justice" Department motion. Let's hope he stands up for the rule of law and makes that chickenshit Donald "Rump" Trump have to pardon Flynn.
BONUS: Apparently, Trump called his handler Vladimir Putin yesterday to brag about the DOJ's decision to drop the Flynn prosecution. You can't make this shit up.
