DOJ Alumni Call For Investigation of Barr

In the aftermath of the violent clearing of peaceful protesters around Lafayette Park on June 1 in order for demagogue and con man Donald "Mango Mussolini" Trump to stage a photo op with "a Bible" he never opens, his corrupt tax payer-paid defense lawyer, William "Low" Barr is under scrutiny for his role in the First Amendment-violating action. Roughly 1,200 former Department of Justice lawyers and prosecutors have written to ask the DOJ's Inspector General Michael Horowitz to open an investigation into Barr's role in breaking up the peaceful protest.

The letter, signed by DOJ alumni who served under Republican and Democratic administrations, calls on Horowitz to:
'....immediately open and conduct an investigation of the full scope of the Attorney General’s and the DOJ’s role in these events. The rule of law, the maintenance of the Department’s integrity, and the very safety of our citizens demand nothing less. The Office of the Inspector General has the authority and the independence to conduct this investigation in a manner that will credibly probe the actions of the Attorney General and other DOJ employees. If the Attorney General or any other DOJ employee has directly participated in actions that have deprived Americans of their constitutional rights or that physically injured Americans lawfully exercising their rights, that would be misconduct of the utmost seriousness, the details of which must be shared with the American people." (our emphasis)
After the firing of former Attorney General Jefferson Beauregard Sessions, Barr auditioned for the job of Attorney General in a lengthy paper that emphasized his view that a President had expansive powers, something that Trump clearly tuned in to as Barr calculated. Post-Sessions, Trump had been searching for his "Roy Cohn," his unprincipled and scurrilous mentor as a shady real estate hustler in the '70s and '80s. He's certainly found him in the person of Barr. Now we'll see if the DOJ's Inspector General will act on the request.
