“Democracy is a device that ensures we shall be governed no better than we deserve.” -- the great Irish playwright and wit George Bernard Shaw, whose was born this day in 1856 in Dublin. How we deserved a great leader like President Obama to be immediately followed by the current despoiler of the presidency is the political tragedy of our time, but it points to the urgency of participation and avoiding complacency, or it will slip away (see our post below for voting information).
Interestingly, July 26 is the birthday of numerous figures across the spectrum of life: Carl Jung (1875), Aldous Huxley (1894), Stanley Kubrick (1928), Mick Jagger (1943), and Helen Mirren (1945).
