Some peak schadenfreude: the GOP-endorsed candidate for Connecticut's 2nd District, U.S. House of Representatives, Thomas Gilmer ended his campaign on the day of the primary elections after he was arrested on domestic assault. According to the Associated Press:
"The state Republican Party says Thomas Gilmer was arrested late Monday and dropped out of the race because of 'the severity of the accusations.' The party had endorsed Gilmer over his primary opponent. He sounds nice. Also, good timing for the arrest the day before election day, and great candidate vetting by the Connecticut GOP. All in all, he has a great future in the Dear Leader's party.
Wethersfield police say Gilmer was charged on a warrant with first-degree unlawful restraint and second-degree strangulation and posted a $5,000 bond. He is expected to appear in court Tuesday. Gilmer’s campaign website was down, and he could not immediately be reached for comment." (our emphasis)
