The Unconventional Convention -- Day 2

ICYMI, day two had many of the surprising and touching moments we saw on day one, with voices of everyday people and a too- short keynote from rising Democratic stars.  The epic roll call vote is a must- see (if you have 34 minutes).  But, for our money, following Michelle Obama's tour de force the night before, it was another woman, Dr. Jill Biden, who stole the show with her emotional recounting of her life with Joe Biden.  Cindy McCain also narrated a moving tribute to the friendship between Biden and her late husband.

Here are Jill Biden's remarks along with former President Bill Clinton's and former Secretary of State John Kerry's, plus a reprise.

Reprise:  The Boss approves this message (Bruce and Patti appear in a blink at 2:30) =choke=

Tonight there's a blockbuster lineup:  Hillary Clinton, Sen. Kamala Harris, and former President Barack Obama.

I'm loving the new Convention. The two nights so far have been uplifting and motivating, and while they are not going to be the same as the old Convention, they are fresh and inspiring. I liked the student song at the beginning of the first night and Michelle Obama's speech. Last night was a really powerful collection of different issues brought into focus. The nominating segment with states' representatives in their own home state was surprisingly great. I rolled my eyes when it started, but quickly was taken in by the mini travelogue and the significance of the representatives. It was great.

Jill Biden is amazing and real and the genuine love between her and Joe is refreshing and comforting to see. I want a President who can empathize with the people of this country and not simply bully his way through the government.

I'm looking forward to this evening, when we see more of Kamala Harris. I think even some of the diehard traditionalists are pleased with this format. i expect that the Republicans are watching and taking notes. They'll probably produce a crappy version of Democratic show, but since they are a party of hate and division, it will seem forced and fake. And if it's true to Trump, it will be filled with despair, destruction, and fear.

I'm really proud of what they've done with a classic event. It could be the format for Conventions going forward.
