Apocalyptic Images Of West Coast Fires

We've seen so many images of the devastation caused by the ongoing, widespread fires on the west coast, and particularly California, and they are mind numbing. Seeing pictures of the sky a deep orange during midday is almost apocalyptic. Some of the pics that stood out to us:

Horrifying, and these are just pictures from the California fires. Oregon and Washington have massive fires they are battling.

  2. My sister and her family live outside San Francisco to the Southeast. She said the heat has been unbearable, as they don't have a/c in their normally mild climate. And rolling blackouts even keep their use of a fan to a minimum. And then as the fires got closer, they starting getting the snowfalls of ash. Her daughter's car won't fit in their garage and they have to go out and sweep the ash off every day. And breathing the smoky air is also a challenge.

    It's a hellscape, right here in the US.

  3. donnah -- It's hard to imagine the suffering of people living in that region. We have family living closer to LA on the coast, and the smoke / ash isn't an issue, but the horrible heat is. Our best wishes to your sister and her family in this nightmare.

  4. That's not the Golden Gate bridge, it's the Western portion of the Bay Bridge
    between SF and Oakland. On the left one can see a portion of Yerba Buena Island;
    in the distance to the right is the Port of Oakland.
