QOTD: No Healing Without Prosecution

Two psychiatric experts make the case for prosecuting career con man and sociopathic narcissist Donald "Very Stable Genius" Trump, rather than giving him yet another pass, like the kinds he's gotten his entire adult life:

"Should [Trump] be exempt from federal prosecution because of a pardon?  Should his debts be forgiven because he is an ex-president?  Should he not be subject to the law 'for the sake of national unity and reconciliation' and, 'to avoid a long national nightmare'?

We don’t think so.  As forensic psychiatrists, it is not difficult for us to say that an insanity defense for President Trump does not pass the smell test, and failure to prosecute crimes for which the evidence is clear would undermine the very foundation of our justice system.  In fact, we are of the opinion that healing cannot—and should not—occur without prosecution.

Bringing a high-profile criminal to justice can actually be healing for our collective mental health. After four years of 'alternative' realities toppling our sense of right and wrong, health and pathology, almost half of the nation finds refuge in his cult of supremacy and anger, while the other half is traumatized.  Prosecution and clear boundaries can help bring reality back to both parties that have been gaslit into believing untruths, usually at the expense of their interests, their livelihoods, and even their lives."  (our emphasis)

We suspect that the real action against Trump will be in state courts for fraud and state tax evasion, since he's likely to issue a pardon for himself (and his corrupt family and enablers) for Federal crimes before he's shown the door. Of course when he does that, he strips away his and their Fifth Amendment protection against self-incrimination, and can be sworn to testify on penalty of perjury before Congress, and in subsequent Federal cases related to his past dealings. Whatever the crime, he's not above the law and must be held to account.

I like how you put reconciliation in quotes because I know from listening to MAGAts they have no intention of trying to unite the country. They are pissed and seeking revenge. That means talking about finding any excuse for outright violence or waiting until the 2022 midterms or for the Orange Bastard to run again in 2024.

I do agree with President-elect Biden that his administration shouldn't be seen as purposely going out to investigate trump and his family. While trump pushed his DOJ and sycophants in congress to go after political opponents, that is something we cannot be seen as doing.

How a President Biden threads this needle I have no idea.

Beach Bum -- Good points. Watching some of the MAGAts interviewed before yesterday's Trump rally in GA, it's clear that they are deep in denial and rage, and will be for the foreseeable future. I agree that Biden can't be in the driver's seat for any coming prosecutions at the Federal level. The Orange Turd will have his small hands full in dealing with the State of New York and the Manhattan DA initially, and that's something that he can clearly stay clear of.
