Big Business/ Finance To Republican Seditionists: Cut The Crap

Yesterday, Big Business/Finance, one of the legs of the rotted- out Republican Party stool (yes), told the seditionist caucus planning to question the Biden/Harris victory on January 6 that it's had enough of the destabilizing bullshit.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the largest business advocacy organization in America, issued this statement:

“On November 3rd a record number of Americans voted. Their votes were counted and consistent with state law, in some cases, recounted. More than 50 legal challenges were heard, adjudicated, and resolved. Election results in all 50 states and the District of Columbia were certified and duly appointed electors have met and cast their votes for president and vice president. Efforts by some members of Congress to disregard certified election results in an effort to change the election outcome or to try a make a long-term political point undermines our democracy and the rule of law and will only result in further division across our nation.

“The United States of America faces enormous challenges that not only require an orderly transition of administrations, but the focus of the incoming Biden administration and the new Congress, and cooperation across party lines. We urge Congress to fulfill its responsibility in counting the electoral votes, the Trump administration to facilitate an orderly transition for the incoming Biden administration, and all of our elected officials to devote their energies to combatting the pandemic and supporting our economic recovery.

“In the coming days, thousands of Americans are expected to gather to voice their views. This is a fundamental right and we urge respect for all those who exercise their constitutional rights. Small businesses, local communities, and our nation pay a steep price when demonstrations turn violent and destructive, so it is critical that these gatherings be peaceful.”

Business Roundable, and association of CEOs representing leading American companies across economic sectors, issued this statement:

“With claims of electoral fraud having been fully considered and rejected by federal and state courts and state government officials, the integrity of the 2020 presidential election is not in doubt. There is no authority for Congress to reject or overturn electoral votes lawfully certified by the states and affirmed by the Electoral College. The peaceful transition of power is a hallmark of our democracy and should proceed unimpeded. Therefore, Business Roundtable opposes efforts to delay or overturn the clear outcome of the election.
“With our country in the midst of a pandemic, business leaders recognize that ongoing division and distrust in our political system threatens the economic recovery and job creation our country desperately needs. Business Roundtable will continue to promote common ground that strengthens our economy and improves opportunity for all Americans.”

Partnership for New York City, an advocacy group representing major business and finance interests, published a letter signed by more than 170 prominent business and finance executives:

"This presidential election has been decided and it is time for the country to move forward. President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris have won the Electoral College and the courts have rejected challenges to the electoral process. Congress should certify the electoral vote on Wednesday, January 6. Attempts to thwart or delay this process run counter to the essential tenets of our democracy.

"The incoming Biden administration faces the urgent tasks of defeating COVID-19 and restoring the livelihoods of millions of Americans who have lost jobs and businesses during the pandemic. Our duly elected leaders deserve the respect and bipartisan support of all Americans at a moment when we are dealing with the worst health and economic crises in modern history. There should be no further delay in the orderly transfer of power."

We won't be throwing a parade for these folks just yet.  It's quite likely a call went out from Senate Majority Leader (for the moment) Moscow Mitch McConnell to his donor base to send the cavalry to shore up his camp heading into tomorrow's shitshow.  Regardless, it shows how fractured the rotted- out party is at this point, with the Trump- enabling, anti- democracy sedition wing vs. the corporate tax cut wing at odds.  Until recent times, it's been a marriage of convenience, up to the point that the lunatics took over the asylum and wanted to make their leader the Loon- for- Life, to hell with the law and our fair and free elections.  That threatens stability, which threatens business, simple as that.  Take the noble professions of fidelity to our democracy with a grain of salt until they defund the party they've been all too willing to support while it metastasized to where we are now.
