As it heads out the door and into history's trashbin in ignominy, the regime of neo-fascist demagogue and white supremacist Donald "Mango Mussolini" Trump slapped the designation of "foreign terrorist organization" on the Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen. It was one of those foreign policy grenades that odious Trumpist stooge Mike Pompeo left for the incoming Biden - Harris Administration as a final act of sedition.
Of course to Trump's racist regime, Yemen is just another shithole country that Trump couldn't find on a map if you spotted him the Y-E-M. He's just doing what the Saudis want him to do. For years, a proxy war with Iran involving the brutal Saudi regime of Crown Prince Mohammed bin "Bone Saw" Salman and the Houthis of Yemen has produced the world's greatest humanitarian crisis. Eighty percent of the population are in dire need of food and medicine as a result of the constant war. The Trump regime has focused on supplying arms to the Saudis, vetoing Congressional objections, arms which are used by the Saudis against civilian population in Yemen.
Now, U.N. officials are warning that the designation of the Houthis as a terrorist organization will derail peace efforts and make the delivery of humanitarian aid to Yemen more difficult:
"U.N. Yemen mediator Martin Griffiths, U.N. aid chief Mark Lowcock and U.N. food chief David Beasley issued their warnings during a U.N. Security Council meeting on Yemen.
'We fear that there will be inevitably a chilling effect on my efforts to bring the parties together,' Griffiths told the 15-member body. 'The decision will contribute to the prospect of famine in Yemen and should be revoked based on humanitarian grounds at the earliest opportunity.' [snip]
'We are struggling now without the designation. With the designation, it’s going to be catastrophic. It literally is going to be a death sentence to hundreds of thousands, if not millions of innocent people in Yemen,' said Beasley, a former governor of South Carolina. (our emphasis)
The Biden-Harris administration is fully aware of the designation which takes place the day before the Biden inauguration, and is expected to void the vicious act meant to appease the Saudi regime and undercut peace negotiations.
