Enemies Of America: Republicans Acquit Trump

Today, the Senate, led by 43 Republicans, voted to acquit,  dangerous fascist buffoon Donald "Mango Mussolini" Trump of the unquestionably proven charge of incitement of insurrection.  Very soon the focus will shift to advancing the Biden agenda, but before that happens, let's carve in stone what the failure to hold Trump accountable means.

It means 43 Republican Senators, and all but 10 Republican House members lined up as enemies of democracy in order to protect the most unfit, dangerous charlatan ever to hold the office of President.

It means the 43 Republican Senators also violated their oath as jurors to "do impartial justice," as many openly stated their belief before and during the trial that they had already made up their minds.

It means they violated their oath to "support and defend the Constitution of the United States from all enemies, foreign and domestic," for who has been a greater domestic threat than Trump, as borne out in the January 6 insurrection and the Big Lie that fueled it.

It means they're willing to allow Trump or a future, more competent version, to ignore political norms and rule as long as they wish.

It means they placed their own need to maintain their status and power over the interests of the American people and Republic.

It means they are willing to ignore truth, facts and basic decency in pursuit of that status and power.

It means that they and the authoritarian, fascist mob they represent, are no longer our fellow Americans, our countrymen -- they are our enemies.

There must be no reconciliation without justice, and no trafficking with our enemies.

I knew, as did most of us, that he would be acquitted. It still was a bitter blow, and instead of closing a door on this monster, they have left it ajar for him to push through again. I expect to see his campaign for 2024 getting fired up now, with the rallies he has missed and the inflow of cash he needs. He has new Congresspeople and Senators at the ready, and he has the feeling of vindication and strength to push him forward.

It means we won't see a fresh new Administration moving forward without the anchor of Trump pulling them down. Biden will do his best to get legislation passed and the Covid bill, but bull-headed Trump loyalists are going to fight him all the way.

Sigh.

donnah -- you paint an accurate picture. Biden needs to get his agenda passed, to hell with "bipartisanship."

Now that he's been given a green light to run in '24, expect him to re.energize the troops. Also remember that for all the handwriinging and Pearl clutching, the Ted Cruz's, Ron Johnson's, Rand Paul's etc, (ad nauseum) aren't going anywhere. In fact, here in Wisconsin, there's talk of Ron Johnson running for governor. And as far as energizing the troops maybe he'll ask if one of his second amendment friends can rid him of the Nicky Haley's Ben Sasse's etc who stabbed him in the back.

seafury -- of course, that cuts both ways. Nobody energizes our troops like Trump!
