Today, the Senate, led by 43 Republicans, voted to acquit, dangerous fascist buffoon Donald "Mango Mussolini" Trump of the unquestionably proven charge of incitement of insurrection. Very soon the focus will shift to advancing the Biden agenda, but before that happens, let's carve in stone what the failure to hold Trump accountable means.
It means 43 Republican Senators, and all but 10 Republican House members lined up as enemies of democracy in order to protect the most unfit, dangerous charlatan ever to hold the office of President.
It means the 43 Republican Senators also violated their oath as jurors to "do impartial justice," as many openly stated their belief before and during the trial that they had already made up their minds.
It means they violated their oath to "support and defend the Constitution of the United States from all enemies, foreign and domestic," for who has been a greater domestic threat than Trump, as borne out in the January 6 insurrection and the Big Lie that fueled it.
It means they're willing to allow Trump or a future, more competent version, to ignore political norms and rule as long as they wish.
It means they placed their own need to maintain their status and power over the interests of the American people and Republic.
It means they are willing to ignore truth, facts and basic decency in pursuit of that status and power.
It means that they and the authoritarian, fascist mob they represent, are no longer our fellow Americans, our countrymen -- they are our enemies.
There must be no reconciliation without justice, and no trafficking with our enemies.
