Today marks the formal rejoining of the U.S. with the Paris Climate Accord, an international agreement supported by nearly every nation on the planet which was abandoned by climate change-denying demagogue and sociopathic liar Donald "Mango Mussolini" Trump in his first year. Within hours of his inauguration, President Joe Biden started the 30-day process to rejoin the agreement. His appointment of former Secretary of State John Kerry as his special envoy on climate as one of his first appointments signaled a 180 degree shift from the Trump regime's pollute and plunder attitude toward our energy practices.
The Biden Administration will have a full plate of climate-related issues to deal with. They will be hosting a summit of world leaders on Earth Day to coordinate their activities, and to lay the groundwork for the U.N.-sponsored summit of world leaders in November in Scotland where they are expected to propose specific measures to curb fossil fuel use and greenhouse gas emissions. From the Post article:
"Biden has kicked off the process of setting a new national goal for cutting emissions that is more ambitious than Obama’s target of slashing carbon emissions by about a quarter below 2005 levels by 2025. But analysts say the United States is at risk of missing even that goal as Trump eased regulations that would have reined in carbon pollution."
The Biden Administration will be exhorted to pledge even stronger goals over the next two decades, which was hamstrung by Trump's malicious actions on energy and environmental regulations impacting carbon emissions. Fortunately, some states and major businesses forged ahead on addressing climate change, despite hostility from the Trump regime, realizing that action was going to be inevitable in the face of scientific reality.
