"Small Group of Criminals": Trump Betrays His Cult

As the trial of lying demagogue and mentally unstable sociopath Donald "Mango Mussolini" Trump gets underway at 1 p.m. this afternoon, his legal team's brief as to why the impeachment should not go to trial has a telling passage that should be absorbed by his cult members who were there that day (or wished they had been):

"[House impeachment managers'] claim that he could be responsible if a small group of criminals (who had come to the capitol of their own accord armed and ready for a fight) completely misunderstood him, were so enamored with him and inspired by his words that they left his speech early, and then walked a mile and a half away to 'imminently' do the opposite of what he had just asked for, is simply absurd."  (our emphasis)

Shorter version: the criminals I summoned to DC were too stupid to grasp the nuance of my oratory. Oh, and you were MAGA morons to jump under the bus for me. The entire brief is full of references to "criminals" and other pejorative descriptions of the people he called "special people" in his January 6 post-riot video.

Of course, we're seeing many of his domestic terrorist rioters claim through their lawyers that it was, indeed, Trump who directed them to attack the Capitol, saying they were "answering his call." Of course they were, because Trump was believing that they could muscle the Senate into overturning the election results that day. He was wrong, and democracy and the Constitution won out....for now.
