During his failed four year regime, bigoted demagogue and unhinged con man Donald "Mango Mussolini" Trump loaded up Federal agencies and commissions with people that were opponents of their agencies' missions. Think pollution promoter Scott Pruitt at the Environmental Protection Agency. Now that President Biden has taken over, there are still holdouts in various agencies that will sabotage his agenda if left in their positions.
One such holdout was the general counsel of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), Sharon Gustafson, who was fired yesterday after she refused to resign as other political appointees had. Prior to the EEOC, she was a litigator on behalf of far-right religious zealots and against the LGBTQ community:
"The Trump administration sought to narrow civil rights protections for LGBTQ people by urging courts to overturn the EEOC interpretation, issued during the Obama administration, that discrimination against people because of their sexual orientation and gender identity ran afoul of the 1964 Civil Rights Act.
Gustafson had raised the hackles of civil rights, LGBTQ and women’s groups during her confirmation hearing, by what they saw as 'evasive' answers she gave about the rights of LGBTQ workers during her Senate confirmation hearing."
In short, Gustafson was committed to furthering the Christo-fascist culture war against LGBTQ employees by using the EEOC's considerable legal cudgel. She was a fox guarding the chicken coop if there ever was one.
