In the wake of the horrific killing of 8 people, including 6 Asian women, in Georgia, we have reports that a police official involved in the investigation who downplayed the racist element has his own racist baggage to explain. Holding forth in a press conference yesterday, Cherokee County Sheriff's captain Jay Baker described the killer frivolously as having "a bad day" when he murdered 8 people, and went on to try to sell the killer's proclaimed motive as revenge for his "sexual addiction," engaging in some despicable victim shaming.
Curious about his attempt to spotlight the victims' occupations, reporters looking into Baker's social media found Facebook posts that promoted t-shirts with "Imported Virus from Chy-na" emblazoned on them. It's little wonder then that Baker chose to deflect from the pattern of anti-Asian animus that the past year has witnessed due to his Dear Leader's slander about the "China Virus" and "Kung Flu" which continues to this day. He's up to his holster in the problem.
BONUS: Interesting that we didn't hear Baker report on an eyewitness interview, including one that said the killer claimed he wanted to kill Asians:
The Atlanta shooter said: "I'm going to kill all Asians," according to local Korean media interview with a surviving witness. The story now reported in one of South Korea's top newspapers, Chosun Ilbo. https://t.co/3XtJnSa6DK
