As part of the effort to distract from the hugely popular American Rescue Plan that's making a crucial difference in Americans' lives, House Minority Leader and Trump's blow-dried toady Rep. Kevin "I Wanna Be Joe" McCarthy (Seditionist-CA) was near El Paso, TX, yesterday trying to stir up the mouth breathers about "terrorists" crossing the southern border from Mexico. It's the xenophobic equivalent of the Mr. Potato Head / Dr. Seuss wars. Standing with his Dear Leader's failed wall (that Mexico never paid for) in the distant background, McCarthy declared that he met with Border Patrol agents, who told them about the "terrorists" on the terrorist watch list:
“You saw it in their eyes,” McCarthy said, referring to the agents. “They talked about, ‘They’re on the list.’ … The terrorist watch list.”
You may recall that the union representing the officers and agents of the Border Patrol endorsed Dear Leader in both 2016 and 2020, so the source of McCarthy's story is questionable at best. Perhaps sensing that the wind direction had shifted for them, the union has so far declined to confirm McCarthy's story. Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ), who chairs the House subcommittee overseeing counter-terrorism, questioned McCarthy's information:
“'Weird as the Chairman of the subcommittee on Intelligence and Special Operations and a border state member of Congress haven’t heard anything about this,' tweeted Rep. Ruben Gallego, a Democrat who represents the Phoenix area. 'Gonna ask for a briefing. Pretty sure he is either wrong or lying.'” (our emphasis)
We're certain McCarthy's both wrong and lying, because he's, well, Kevin McCarthy and that's what he does for a living. We're happy that Gallego is asking for a briefing from the Border Patrol, but he should go further and hold a hearing and get them under oath.
