Claim: $26M Lottery Ticket Was Laundered Away

Last Thursday was the final day for someone to claim the winning $26 million California lottery ticket from a drawing last November 14. Unfortunately, a woman who claims that she bought the ticket says she pocketed the ticket and forgot to take it out when she did the laundry:

"The winning SuperLotto Plus ticket for the Nov. 14 drawing was sold at an Arco AM/PM convenience store in the Los Angeles suburb of Norwalk. Thursday was the last day to redeem it.

Nobody did.

Store employee Esperanza Hernandez told the Whittier Daily News that a woman came in Wednesday and told workers that she had put the ticket in her pants and it was destroyed in the laundry."

California lottery officials are investigating whether her claim washes. Store video has been made available to the authorities. There are potential winners in this soggy tale. The unclaimed money would go to California's public schools, and the store where the ticket was sold would pocket get $130,000.
