Ten years ago today, President Obama announced that the perpetrator of the 9 - 11 attack had been killed by U.S. forces in Pakistan with these words:
"Tonight, I can report to the American people and to the world that the United States has conducted an operation that killed Osama bin Laden, the leader of al Qaeda, and a terrorist who’s responsible for the murder of thousands of innocent men, women, and children."
The al Qaeda cult hasn't recovered from the killing of its fanatical leader, but has mutated in countries in the region, often fighting for power with other radical terrorist groups. It would have been hard to imagine 10 years ago that a decade later the most serious terrorist threat to the U.S. would come from domestic right-wing, white supremacist groups and individuals.
