Now that they're being rounded up and charged for their roles in the January 6 Trumpist insurrection at the Capitol, a number of the members of the rioting fascist groups are distancing themselves as fast as you can say "stop the steal." Case in point: Proud Boy Matthew Greene from Syracuse, NY, whose attorney claimed in a court document this week that Greene hadn't been a member of the fascist, misogynist group for long. NBC4 Washington's excellent reporter Scott MacFarlane has an excerpt from the court filing (click to enlarge):

Greene was arrested on April 21 and charged along with two other Proud Boys Dominic Pezzola and William Pepe, who will have to come up with their own dodges (e.g., Pezzola: Trump ordered me to riot) to sell to the judge. As Proud Boy members, all three are charged with conspiracy to obstruct, influence, and impede an official proceeding and conspiracy to obstruct, influence, impede, and interfere with law enforcement officers engaged in their official duties in protecting the U.S. Capitol and its grounds on Jan. 6, 2021.
Once they got caught and are facing time in the slammer, they're not so proud any more.
