In his first outing to campaign for Virginia Dem gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe, President Biden came out swinging in front of an audience of some 3,000 in Northern Virginia. Referring to the need to elect McAuliffe over Trumpist challenger Glenn "Trumpkin" Youngkin as a mini-Trump, Biden said:
"You got to elect him [McAuliffe] again, and I mean this, not just for Virginia, for the country. The country is looking, these off-year elections, the country's looking. This is a big deal. Terry and I share a lot in common. I ran against Donald Trump and so is Terry. And I whipped Donald Trump in Virginia and so will Terry.
I tell you what, the guy Terry is running against is an acolyte of Donald Trump -- for real, I mean it's just like, I don't know where these guys come from." (our emphasis)
Biden's stumping for former Governor McAuliffe indicates the importance Dems place on keeping increasingly blue Virginia in their column, as mega-millionaire ($378 million net worth) Youngkin has been running ads that falsely portray him as a "no-labels" moderate in the Dem-stronghold Northern Virginia TV market, while running ads in conservative areas of the state that portray him as a Trump ally. Youngkin's also a local tax dodger, and has a trickle-down "economist" as an economic advisor. Youngkin also has extreme views on abortion, which he's doing his best to hide.
Perhaps his transparent act as a political chameleon is why Youngkin backed out of the first debate between himself and McAuliffe, whining that moderator Judy Woodruff of PBS (!) would be biased because back in 2010 she made a $250 donation to the Clinton Foundation for relief to Haiti's earthquake victims. Brave and honest Youngkin ain't, and Virginia's Governor he won't be if Dems organize and get out the vote.
