The Associated Press reported on the temporary "cease fire" in Florida on the part of its Trumpist Governor Ron DeSantis when President Biden visited the site of the condo collapse in Surfside, FL. With the state needing Federal aid and resources, DeSantis can't be given too much credit for toning down the right-wing, culture wars rhetoric for a few moments. It had to have been irritating to Dear Leader to see his state's Rethuglican governor acknowledging President Biden as President. During his regime, Dear Leader was infamous for threatening to deny aid to Governors who criticized him and bruised his narcissistic ego. From the AP:
"[DeSantis] nodded in agreement when Biden visited and hailed their joint appearance as a sign that those with opposing political views can work together in a crisis. And he even skipped a rally in Sarasota headlined by former President Donald Trump, whose early endorsement was crucial in helping DeSantis win the governor’s race in 2018." (our emphasis)
With DeSantis looking like he wants to run for the Presidency in 2024, unless his cult leader chooses to, some observers are noticing tensions between DeSantis and his Dear Leader. (It doesn't help that DeSantis keeps edging out Dear Leader in Rethuglican polls). Gabe Sherman in Vanity Fair just wrote an article on the looming "clash" between them:
"In recent days I spoke with a half dozen GOP insiders about the recent flare-ups between DeSantis’s and Trump’s camps. The sources agreed that DeSantis and Trump are on an inevitable collision course as the 2024 GOP field takes shape. “There’s going to be a blowup,” a prominent Republican said. “Trump fucking hates DeSantis. He just resents his popularity,” a Trump confidant told me. Asked for comment, Trump spokesperson Liz Harrington said: “Governor DeSantis has shown great respect.” (our emphasis)
The "has shown great respect" line seems right out of a Godfather film when an aspiring mobster is speaking about respecting Don Corleone as he plans to assassinate him. We can't wait for the collision of these two unworthy demagogues fighting for the mouthbreather vote. We hope it's bloody and career ending for both.
