A new poll by Quinnipiac University indicates that reckless sociopathic hack Gov. Ron "One Glove" DeSantis (COVID-FL) is opposed by healthy majorities in his state regarding his positions on mask mandates in public institutions like schools. Moreover, a significant number say the recent surge in COVID-19 Delta variant cases in the state was avoidable. From Quinnipiac's findings:
(ON MASKS)
"Nearly 7 in 10 (68 - 29 percent) say they think local officials should be able to require masks in indoor public spaces if they believe it is necessary.
A majority support 59 - 39 percent requiring everyone to wear masks while in indoor public spaces.
A majority believe 64 - 31 percent that masks or face coverings are effective in slowing the spread of COVID-19.
Sixty-three percent of Floridians say the issue of mask wearing is primarily about public health, while 33 percent say it is an issue about personal freedom. Republicans stand alone among all groups in saying 58 - 39 percent that the issue of mask wearing is primarily about personal freedom." (our emphasis)
While DeSantis is playing to his low information Trumpist base for political reasons, the public overall is critical of what's happening on his watch:
(ON COVID SURGE)
"A majority of Floridians say 61 - 33 percent that the recent rise in COVID-19 cases in the state was preventable.
Nearly 6 in 10 (59 percent) say the spread of COVID-19 in the state is out of control, while 34 percent say it is under control.
Almost three-quarters (73 - 25 percent) think the spread of COVID-19 in the state is a serious problem at this time." (our emphasis)
There's one issue that there's agreement on across party lines: opposition to DeSantis' threat to withhold funds from public school administrators who are imposing mask mandates:
"On Gov. DeSantis' threat to withhold school leaders' salaries if they require masks for students, 69 percent say it's a bad idea, while 25 percent say it's a good idea. There is agreement across partisan lines, as Democrats say 91 - 8 percent, independents say 70 - 26 percent, and Republicans say 52 - 38 percent that it's a bad idea." (our emphasis)
Just months ago, some in our broken political media declared DeSantis a "winner" over the COVID-19 virus in his state. As he went contrary to public health experts as the Delta variant spread, that declared "win" seems like nothing more than press puffery.
BONUS: A sad story of a Floriduh covidiot's insane reaction to COVID: a mother drowns her infant, and stabs her husband and daughter, thinking she was saving her baby from COVID. Horrible.
