Texas' dangerous sociopathic Governor, Greg "Abbadabba" Abbott has been doing his best to top his Floriduh counterpart, the shameful and ambitious Gov. Ron "One Glove" DeSantis, in being the most dangerous Governor when it comes to the COVID-19 / Delta variant. With their mouthbreathing anti-vaxxer and anti-mask Trumpist voters top of mind, they've turned their states into superspreaders by fighting mask mandates just as the Delta variant is surging, creating a crisis for hospitals there.
In the case of Texas, Abbott has allies in his Republican-dominated state supreme court, which "temporarily" has upheld his ban on mask mandates in government buildings (e.g., schools), which would curb the virus' spread:
"The all-Republican court temporarily blocked mask mandates in two counties until their cases can be heard, affirming Abbott’s executive order that prohibited government entities from issuing mask mandates.
As the delta variant of the coronavirus surges, several school districts and some Texas counties have defied the Republican governor’s order. The cases the court considered were those of Bexar County, home to San Antonio, and Dallas County.
The counties were trying to impose mask requirements in schools, which will not be permitted now, at least until the courts review the matter further."
This reckless attack on public health has become a litmus test for radical right-wing Trumpers, who fear the vaccine and masking far less than they do seeing the Biden Administration succeed in combatting the virus' spread. That they're endangering their own voters is one thing (and maybe a good lesson in following false leaders). It's endangering the vulnerable, especially children who don't have access to vaccines, but the craven Abbott and his enablers don't want to cross their moronic and angry base.
