News Item: Tesla Moving Its HQ To Texas

In the wake of Texas' moves to disenfranchise traditionally Democratic voters with new voter suppression laws, to undermine the fight against COVID, and to eliminate women's reproductive rights with their bounty hunter law, most company leaders with a shred of decency or even self-interest would think twice about doing business in Texas under Trumpist Gov. Greg "Abbadabba" Abbott's reactionary regime. Not Tesla's egomaniac leader Elon Musk, who's moving Tesla's headquarters operation to Austin, TX.

Claiming that relocating from their Palo Alto, CA site to Texas is an economic (i.e. tax) decision, Musk was contradicted by Abbott, who said that “Elon consistently tells me that he likes the social policies in the state."  That likely also includes a disdain for public health. Musk was an early critic of California's public health measures, openly defying local restrictions by opening his manufacturing plant in Fremont, CA and downplaying the seriousness of the virus.

Musk and his ilk live in a cosseted bubble of immense wealth and arrogance. They are obsessed with their wealth and won't let something like voting rights, or public health, or women's reproductive rights interfere with that pursuit. The next time you see a Tesla, or a SpaceX launch remember that.
