Former President Donald Trump on Monday sought to block the release of documents related to the Jan. 6 Capitol insurrection to a House committee investigating the attack, challenging President Joe Biden’s initial decision to waive executive privilege.
In a federal lawsuit, Trump said the committee’s August request was “almost limitless in scope,” and sought many records that weren’t connected to the siege. He called it a “vexatious, illegal fishing expedition” that was “untethered from any legitimate legislative purpose,” according to the papers filed in federal court in the District of Columbia.
What does he have to hide, you didn't ask? It rhymes with imprison.
It's standard operating procedure for the felonious former president to try to drag legal proceedings out as long as possible in order to run out the clock (in this case, hoping either that his Supreme Court finds in his favor or, barring that, that his cult re- takes the House of Representatives in 2022 and kills the January 6 select committee before it can report on his acts of sedition).
Surprisingly, the litigious Malignant Loser found an attorney to file the suit, albeit not a leading light in the legal firmament:
Monday’s lawsuit was filed by Jesse Binnall, an attorney based in Alexandria, Virginia, who represented Trump in an unsuccessful lawsuit late last year seeking to overturn Biden’s victory in Nevada. Trump and his allies have continued to make baseless claims about voter fraud in the 2020 election. He should ask to be paid in advance.
UPDATE:
Trump’s lawsuit got randomly assigned to a judge who has said “there must be consequences” for Jan. 6 defendantshttps://t.co/JGey25JCIj

Trump’s suit is riddled with groundless assertions, starts and ends by treating Trump as though he were still POTUS, belittles Congress’s obvious need to enact laws strong enough to prevent a coup and an insurrection, and invokes inapplicable privileges https://t.co/aZecTGYzKt
