At least 100,000 demonstrators converged on Glasgow, Scotland to protest continued inaction by the world's industrial leaders on fighting climate change. Meanwhile, the COP26 summit of those leaders continues to promise action on eliminating fossil fuel use, cutting methane emissions, and halting deforestation, producing plans and documents that will likely face strong opposition from entrenched interests in their home countries.
Activists say that the targets pledged by industrial nations to keep global temperature increases under 1.5 degrees Celsius falls short of measures that are needed to avoid further recent environmental disasters like epic droughts, forest fires, massive hurricanes and other evidence of a rapidly warming planet.
Demonstrations coinciding with Glasgow's are occurring in approximately 100 other nations to demand concrete action on curbing the warming of the planet.
